Food lovers document their local favorites

People love food. And on social media, people love photos of food. That’s why a group of students have started a Tulane University chapter of Spoon University, an organization with members who post articles and images from their daily dining experiences.

These articles cover everything from dining options along Mardi Gras parade routes, to a ranking of near-campus venues to grab a great sandwich.

“We have a photo circle where photographers and people like me who just eat weird things and have an iPhone with a camera can post pictures of food,” said Nina Riffaud, a Tulane junior and member of the club.

“Spoon University inspires me to try new foods and new restaurants.”

Riffaud, who says the club is perfect for her because it combines her love to eat with her love to write, enjoys writing articles that appeal to the college-aged audience. A recent post was titled, “First Date Foods to Guarantee a Second.”

The website is also good for students who dine on campus. Riffaud’s favorite place to eat—and write about—is Bruff Commons, one of Tulane’s dining halls.

“Bruff is more than just convenient,” said Riffaud. “I really enjoy seeing the different Bruff innovations, or Brinnovations as students say.”

Beyond campus dining, restaurant suggestions or funny cooking videos, Spoon University has something to offer for all food lovers.
