A Katrina Class Story: No Regrets for Gelhardt

“I had no hesitation in coming back to New Orleans,” says senior student-athlete Craig Gelhardt, whose fall 2005 football season with the Green Wave found him and teammates playing everywhere but home because of the damage and disruption caused by Hurricane Katrina. Listen to him tell his story in this multimedia presentation.

When Tulane reopened in spring 2006, Gelhardt returned with a grateful heart — he worked many weekends gutting and repairing houses in devastated New Orleans neighborhoods.

Gelhardt's story was produced by New Wave team members Carol Schlueter and Ryan Rivet, with photography by Paula Burch-Celentano.
