Clarke Peters speaks to the class about his belief that “The Wire” provides a kind of ethnography that examines the struggles of the modern American city.

A Tony-nominated playwright, Broadway actor and TV star, Clarke Peters lives in London but is in New Orleans as a member of the cast of the upcoming HBO series, “Treme.”

From left, Allison Friendly, who was responsible for Clarke Peters" visit, Peters and Shayne Lee, assistant professor of sociology, share a moment in the classroom after Peters spoke about “The Wire.”

Student Ted Hart has his photo taken with Clarke Peters after the class. Shayne Lee challenges his students to apply the same attention to the nuances of “The Wire” as they would to those of a play by Shakespeare.
