At sundown on the first night of Hanukkah (Dec. 1), students light candles in front of the Lavin-Bernick Center on the uptown campus. (Photos by Paula Burch-Celentano)

The central shamash, or service light, and one “candle” are aglow as a huge menorah is lit on the first night of the eight-day Jewish festival of lights.

Each student kindles a candle as Chabad at Tulane leads the recitation of blessings.
