Two Concerts Feature Singers
Classical music lovers have a choice of two concerts tonight (Jan. 29) with Tulane connections, one a Haiti benefit featuring a medical student who sings opera, and the second highlighting soprano Amy Pfrimmer of the music faculty.
Benefit Concert for Haiti
Opera singer Glenn Fernandez, who also is a student at the Tulane School of Medicine, is one of several musicians who will be performing at a Benefit Concert for Haiti tonight from 6â“7:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 5401 S. Claiborne Ave. in uptown New Orleans.
Among the other performers who are donating their time will be pianist Amanda Wadsworth, Peter Cho's Piano Trio, jazz musicians, soprano Vickie Thomas, mezzosoprano Sheila McDermott, tenor Steve Waddell and flute players Kim Hickey and Kristina Havard, and the list keeps growing.
Donations will go to two organizations helping in Haiti: Doctors Without Borders and Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. Checks can be made to: First Presbyterian Church and will be distributed to the two organizations. Suggested donation is a minimum of $10.

Vocal Series Concert
On stage tonight in the Dixon Annex Recital Hall on the uptown campus will be Pfrimmer and pianist Aigerim Magavina in a free concert as part of the Clara del Marmol and Annabelle Bernard Vocal Series. The concert is at 7:30 p.m.
Pfrimmer, a professor of practice in the Newcomb Department of Music, has made recent appearances with the New Orleans Opera, Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Tulane Summer Lyric Theatre, the Jefferson Performing Arts Society and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.
She will be accompanied by Magavina, who has been staff accompanist for the music department since 2004. Magavina also is an award-winning performer in international piano competitions. The duo will present songs and arias of Mozart, Bellini, Debussy, Poulenc, Rachmaninov, Puccini, Copland and Lehar.
The free concert is made possible by the Clara del Marmol and Annabelle Bernard Fund, which sponsors a memorial concert series recognizing the work and legacy of Clara Del Marmol, a distinguished faculty member of Newcomb College, and Annabelle Bernard-Mercker, an internationally renowned African-American soprano who was a native New Orleanian.
