Who Dat Recycling?

Recycling is a year-round effort on the Tulane uptown campus, where weekly pickups take place in buildings, but a special event on Wednesday (Feb. 10) will feature a visit by Coca Cola's traveling Recycling Education Vehicle.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. between Bruff Commons and Irby House, when recyclers who bring in plastic bottles and aluminum cans can earn awards. Liz Davey of the Tulane Office of Environmental Affairs encourages students and faculty and staff members to bring in bottles and cans from the Super Bowl and Mardi Gras weekends for recycling.

Davey provides the following update on regular recycling programs on the uptown campus:

  • Paper. In all buildings serviced by UNICCO for cleaning on the uptown campus, custodians will now empty paper recycling bins in offices every Thursday, taking the paper to the building's collection toters. This service covers most academic buildings. All paper is accepted for recycling, including white paper, colored paper, newspaper, magazines, folders and paperboard.
  • Corrugated cardboard. Cardboard boxes should be emptied and placed next to your trash can. Custodians carry them out for recycling. For pickup of large quantities of cardboard on the uptown campus, call 504-865-2469.
  • Bottles and cans. Collection containers for plastic bottles and aluminum cans are located outside on the grounds, at residence halls, the Lavin-Bernick Center food court and the School of Architecture building.
  • Electronics: Tulane Recycling provides pickups for electronics twice a month. Requests for pickups can be placed through the Servicewave website.
