Tulane commencement dances into Superdome with live jazz, second lines, Jesmyn Ward, Steve Gleason, Irma Thomas and More

WHAT: Tulane University’s Commencement 2018

WHEN: 9 a.m., Saturday, May 19, 2018

WHERE: The Mercedes-Benz Superdome

WHO: Nearly 3,000 Tulane graduates, their families, friends and keynote speaker Jesmyn Ward, a two-time National Book Award winner and one of TIME magazine's Most Influential People of 2018. Honorary degree recipients include New Orleans Saints hero and ALS activist Steve Gleason, Grammy-winning singer Irma Thomas, Netscape Co-Founder James H. Clark and Dr. Paul E. Farmer who has dedicated his life to improving health care for the world’s poorest populations. In addition to traditional graduation pageantry, graduates will be sent off in distinct New Orleans style with live jazz by Dr. Michael White and the Original Liberty Jazz Band, Mardi Gras beads, second-lining, confetti cannons and more.

MORE: Media may park for free, after showing a press pass or Tulane-issued parking pass to the attendant in Garage 6, which is located on the Poydras Street side of the Superdome, to the right of Ground Level, Gate A. After parking, the media can enter the Superdome through Ground Level Gate A. A riser with a mult-box will be provided for media on the floor of the Superdome.
