Berger among Law School Hall of Fame honorees

Developer Darryl Berger, who chairs the Board of Tulane University and has been a key figure in New Orleans" resurgence, is among nine honorees being added to the Tulane Law School Hall of Fame on March 27.

Berger, a 1972 Tulane Law School graduate, has overseen major sophisticated transactions for four decades through The Berger Company. His projects have included the redevelopment of Jax Brewery and The Shops at Canal Place as well as some of the city"s largest hotels. He also chairs the New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corp. and is a Convention and Visitors Bureau board member.

The other honorees include Judges Edith Brown Clement, a 1973 graduate, and W. Eugene Davis, a 1960 graduate, both of the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals; professor emeritus Hoffman Fuller, a 1956 alumnus who led Tulane Law School"s tax program for almost 50 years; Entergy executive vice president Rod West, who earned a Tulane law degree in 1993 and business degree in 2005; Phillip Wittmann, a member of the Stone Pigman Walther Wittmann law firm and a 1961 law graduate who also received a Tulane undergraduate degree; and Yale law professor Jerry Mashaw, a 1964 Tulane Law graduate who received his undergraduate degree in 1962.

Posthumous honorees are William Ray Forrester, who was a Tulane Law professor in 1941-49 and dean in 1952-63, and U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice Edward White, who also served as a state and U.S. senator and was a member of Tulane"s first Board of Administrators.

Selections for the Hall of Fame are made by an alumni committee, in consultation with the dean, based on the nominees" distinguished professional achievements and enduring dedication to the mission and students of Tulane Law School.

The Hall of Fame luncheon is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at the Marriott Convention Center in New Orleans.
