Crawfest 2013 to excite your ears and your tastebuds
Tulane University students have announced the official lineup for Crawfest 2013, an annual festival on the uptown campus organized by students that will be held on April 20. With bands from across the country and many different genres, Crawfest will certainly excite more than just your tastebuds.
The current lineup of 12 bands was partly determined by a Battle of the Bands last month. The winner (Gold and the Rush) will be playing at Crawfest and the second and third place winners (Doombalaya and Yelephants) will be playing on Friday (April 12) at Fridays at the Quad (FAQ).
Greenberg is excited for the Crawfest SuperJam, another feature of this year's festival. “It will allow multiple musicians to collaborate on stage.” Greenberg also assures that “it will be star studded.”
Last year's headliner, Galactic, was a crowd favorite and that made the choice for this year's top of the bill an easy one.
“Last year, Galactic received a great reception so we're looking forward to bringing in another band with their origins rooted in New Orleans,” Greeberg says. “We're really excited to be bringing in an act like the Funky Meters.”
With Mississippi Rail Company being the only returning band, a whole new music scene is in store for the festival.
Some of the acts playing this year have strong ties to Tulane. Members of Mississippi Rail Company graduated from Tulane and the drummer in Mission South is also a Tulane graduate and former member of local Tulane band 1608.
“We really like to incorporate students and alumni into the event whenever possible,” Greenberg says.
Chase Vicenzi is a junior at Tulane who is studying communication and political science.
