For more than 20 years, Tulane chemical engineering professor Kyriakos Papadopoulos has served as the lead instructor of the Tulane Karate Club. In this video, Papadopoulos talks about being a teacherand a studentof karate.
His role in the karate dojo is not unlike his role in the classroom, says Papadopoulos. In both arenas, the teacher must find ways or "tricks" to facilitate a student's comprehension.
The Tulane Karate Club, which was founded in the mid-1960s by Takayuki Mikami, comprises both beginning and advanced courses. All classes are held on campus in the Reily Student Recreation Center. No previous martial arts experience is required to join.
