Life on limb

Resurrection fern

The massive branch of a live oak tree situated along Newcomb Circle on the Tulane University uptown campus is blanketed in the green foliage of a resurrection fern. The fern, an air plant that lives on the bark of large trees, gets its name from its propensity to spring back to life after withering and turning brown during dry weather. A string of wet days (even by New Orleans' standards) have the ferns in optimal shape.
