The More You NOLA: Five ideas for date night

The More You NOLA

Whether you met while sitting next to each other in an afternoon lecture or after swiping right, think beyond the basic “let"s get some coffee sometime” formula when planning that first date. Here are some fresh suggestions for New Orleans date nights.

Make it a movie night

Take a break from Netflix, and catch a late-night screening at Prytania Theatre (5339 Prytania St.), the state"s oldest operating single-screen movie house. This old-school theater hosts weekend series of classics and cult favorites, including a presentation of John Carpenter"s films from Sunday, Sept. 27, through Sunday, Oct. 25. Students get $1 off at the box office with your Tulane Splash card.

Pack a picnic

Take your favorite items to-go from St. James Cheese Co. (5004 Prytania St.) or Stein"s Market & Deli (2207 Magazine St.), and watch the sunset at The Fly in Audubon Park.

Support the arts

Every Thursday, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art (925 Camp St.) celebrates the region"s music through the Ogden After Hours program. The weekly event showcases live musical performances while guests view the museum"s eclectic collection. Check out the bluesy Cedric Burnside Project on Thursday (Sept. 17) from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., while grabbing a bite from Miss Linda"s Soul Food Catering.

Split something sweet

If you"re looking for a sweet escape for coffee and conversation, head to Sucre (3025 Magazine St.). Get to know each other better while sharing a plate of their signature French macarons or splitting a decadent All Things NOLA sundae, which includes Bananas Foster sauce, brown-butter pecan gelato and bread pudding pieces topped with whipped cream.

Try a new haunt

If your date can"t wait for Halloween season, dare to enter The Mortuary haunted house (4800 Canal St.) together. Housing this year"s “7 Deadly Sins” attraction, the historic local building has been the subject of paranormal investigation on multiple ghost-hunting TV shows. On Fridays in September, use the code “KILLER10” at the box office for $10 off general admission.
