The search committee tasked with identifying top candidates to succeed Rick Dickson, who will step down on June 30, 2016, as director of Tulane Athletics, will meet for the first time Friday morning (Oct. 16) on the Tulane University uptown campus.

Doug Hertz chairs the committee, which includes fellow Board of Tulane members and longtime Green Wave supporters Jill Glazer, Bill Goldring, Jerry Greenbaum and Richard Yulman. Jenny Kottler, who is serving a three-year term as the alumni representative to the board, also is a member of the committee.

Gabe Feldman, Paul and Abram B. Barron Associate Professor of Law and the university"s NCAA representative, and Dr. Gregory Stewart, co-director of the Sports Medicine Program at Tulane and Green Wave team physician, will be the faculty representatives on the search committee. James MacLaren, dean of Newcomb-Tulane College, also will serve on the search committee. Yvette Jones, executive vice president for University Relations and Development, will serve as the liaison between the administration and the search committee.

“This is obviously a crucial position at the university,” Tulane President Mike Fitts said. “That"s why we"ve assembled such a great search team filled with members focused on an athletics program that excels at the highest level for the benefit of both our student-athletes and fans.”

Jeff Schemmel of College Sports Solutions, one of the nation"s leading collegiate athletics consulting firms, will assist in the search. Schemmel also consulted on the searches that brought David Pierce, baseball coach, and Barbara Burke, deputy director of athletics/chief operating officer to Tulane.

“We have a great deal of work to do,” Hertz said. “Finding someone with Rick"s devotion, drive and dedication will not be easy. But this will be a highly sought-after position, and I have no doubt we will find a highly qualified and diverse field to present to President Fitts.”

The new athletic director will oversee all operations of Tulane Athletics, including the athletics complex that includes the Hertz Center practice facility, at left; Yulman Stadium, center; the Wilson Athletics Center, to the right of the stadium; and Greer Field at Turchin Stadium, far right.
