New dean of libraries announced

David Banush, the associate university librarian for access services and collection management at Brown University, has accepted an appointment as the next dean of libraries and academic information resources at Tulane University.

David Banush will succeed Lance Query, who led libraries and academic information services at Tulane University for 15 years.


“In late September, Banush will formally come "on board" and succeed Lance Query who has, for 15 years, led Tulane"s libraries and academic information services with enormous success and exemplary distinction,” announced Michael A. Bernstein, senior vice president for academic affairs and provost who also is the John Christie Barr Professor of History and a professor of economics at Tulane.

Since 2009, Banush has had responsibility for the management of the Brown University Library collections budget of almost $11.5 million, as well as oversight of Brown Library technical services, circulation and resource sharing, and preservation and off-site storage. Before joining his colleagues at Brown, Banush held several positions of increasing responsibility at the Cornell University Library.

Banush has been active in leadership roles in several professional organizations, including the Program for Cooperative Cataloging, the Northeast Research Libraries consortium, and the Ivy Plus Libraries Collection Development Group. He has published and presented articles on numerous library issues, and he currently serves on the editorial board of Library Resources and Technical Services.

Banush recently completed the Association of Research Libraries" Leadership Fellows program, an 18-month executive leadership program focused on the development of future senior-level leaders in large research libraries.

A native of suburban Detroit, Banush earned an A.B. with high distinction in English from the University of Michigan and an M.A. in English from New York University. He received his Master"s of Library and Information Science at Wayne State University.
