New website connects Tulane alumni
Since the site became active in March 2014 approximately 1,600 students and alumni have joined Tulane Connect, which allows users to find or become mentors and post and view jobs and internships.
To join, students sign in using their Facebook or LinkedIn accounts. Tulane Connect then creates a personal page that is customizable and viewable to others in the network.
Will Burdette, director of marketing for alumni relations, reminds young alumni to put their best cyber-face forward.
“Keep in mind that this is a professional networking site,” says Burdette. “It's recommended that you link to your most career-relevant social media account.”
Upon creating a profile, users select from a list of three ways they are willing to help "I am willing to introduce others to my community; I am willing to open doors at my workplace; I am willing to answer industry-specific questions."
Tulane Connect is the latest of several post-graduate perks introduced by Alumni Career Services, which is run by the Office of Alumni Relations. Others include career counseling, mock interviews and networking events.
“Sometimes students are unsure where to turn after they've graduated,” says Nicole Bush, director of alumni career services. “The Tulane Career Services Center works for them while they are undergraduates, and we work for them after they've graduated.”
Promotions and contests are in the works to help encourage participation and grow the network. Future networking events also will be advertised via the site.
