Few Green Wave fans could match the late Tulane University alumnus Bobby Boudreau, class of 1951.
“Win or lose, he was smiling at the end of every game, as if just watching his beloved Green Wave made him happy, regardless of the outcome. He set a perfect (but perhaps unattainable) example for the rest of us, and no one ever personified true Tulane spirit better,” said Tulane University alumnus J. Michael Veron.
“I was thrilled when Tulane established the Bobby Boudreau Spirit Award to commemorate his devotion to our alma mater, and I am humbled and honored to be named a recipient.”—J. Michael Veron
Veron is the Bobby Boudreau Spirit Award winner for 2014. Veron earned a bachelor"s degree in English literature from Tulane in 1972 and a J.D. from Tulane Law School in 1974.
“I first met Bobby Boudreau when he interviewed me after I had applied for admission to enter Tulane as a freshman in the fall of 1968,” Veron said. “It was the start of a great friendship. Over the years, I grew to respect Bobby both as a lawyer"s lawyer and as the quintessential Tulane fan.”
Among his many contributions to Tulane, Veron has served as a reunion chair and as a member of the Associates Board, the Green Wave Club, Tulane Athletics Fund Advisory Board, Tulane Alumni Association Board, T Club and Tulane Athletics Advisory Council.
Veron has a passion for golf and has been a member of the board of the Louisiana Golf Association for many years, serving as president of that organization in 1990. He also served as a United States Golf Association committee member for over 20 years and still serves as a USGA rules official.
