On parade
Midshipmen from the Tulane Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) drill on the uptown campus circa 1939. In 1938, university president Rufus Harris applied to establish an NROTC unit at Tulane and, with the help of retired Vice Adm. Ernest L. Jahncke, was selected. Tulane was the eighth collegiate unit to be established and enrolled a full quota of 76 candidates in the first year.
