The passing of Marjorie F. ‘Margie’ Cowen
Marjorie F. “Margie” Cowen, the former senior adviser for external affairs at Tulane University and beloved wife of Tulane President Emeritus Scott Cowen, passed away Monday, Dec. 16, in New Orleans. Margie, a devoted member of the Tulane family, was given the title of First Lady Emerita of Tulane University upon her retirement in 2014. She continued to serve Tulane in her retirement years, most recently as a member of the Tulane Hillel Board of Directors. She will be remembered for her warmth, grace and strength, as well as for her popular “salons” that showcased Tulane faculty and the other events she hosted to welcome students, Tulanians and members of the broader New Orleans community.
A memorial service for Margie will be held on Sunday, Jan. 19, at Touro Synagogue located at 4238 Saint Charles Avenue in New Orleans. Visitation will begin at noon and the service will be at 1 p.m. A reception will follow.
Donations in Margie’s memory may be made to the Dance for Parkinson’s program at the New Orleans Jewish Community Center, Lighthouse Louisiana in New Orleans, or the Marjorie F. Cowen Fund at Tulane University.
