Colorful plastic beads in metallic hues, the common currency of Carnival, will linger long past Mardi Gras as students drape them on trees on the Tulane uptown campus.

Each year, Tulane students collect Mardi Gras beads to recycle in collaboration with intellectually disabled citizens trained and employed by the nonprofit Arc of Greater New Orleans.
