Photos: Big night for hot jazz

What a hot night for jazz on the Tulane uptown campus — the Nicholas Payton Trio and the Tulane Big Band on stage together. The concert on Dec. 8 in Dixon Hall featured Payton, renowned trumpet player, composer and recording artist, along with student musicians directed by Jesse McBride.

The concert was funded by the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, the Music Rising Initiative of the Gibson Foundation and the New Orleans Center for the Gulf South. Payton is the Jazz Artist-in-Residence at Tulane for the 2011-2012 academic year, a program also funded by Music Rising.
