Photos: Dedicating the gardens

With cool fall weather and the campus buzzing with homecoming week activities, it was a perfect time to dedicate the Glazer Gardens and Bocce Court and the Newcomb Pottery Garden — two corners of the uptown campus that have been transformed.

In a dedication ceremony on Thursday (Oct. 20), Tulane President Scott Cowen lauded philanthropists Jill and Avie Glazer for generously contributing their time, energy and money to make the university a better institution.

At the dedication ceremony for the two garden areas and the bocce court are Avie and Jill Glazer, a Newcomb alumna and member of the Board of Tulane.

The Glazer Gardens, with fruit trees, benches, a student gardening area and bocce court, were dedicated in memory of Morris Henkin, Jill Glazer's father.

A linear garden stretching from Newcomb Place to Broadway, the Newcomb Pottery Garden was established by the Glazers in memory of Jill Glazer's mother, Judith Henkin.

The Newcomb Pottery Garden, near the Woldenberg Art Center, Newcomb Hall and Josephine Louise House, is planted with flowering trees, shrubs, perennials, vines and ferns that are depicted on Newcomb Pottery.

The shady bocce court, just off Willow Street across from the alumni house, is frequented by students taking a break from studies.
