Photos: Remembering Russia

Documenting churches and other historic buildings in Russia has been the life work of William Brumfield, professor of Germanic and Slavic Studies at Tulane. A exhibition of his photos, taken in the northern part of the Perm Territory of the Ural Mountains region of Russia, is on display at the Stroganov Museum in Usolye, Russia, through Sept. 5.

The first photo below shows Brumfield at the museum, and the other photos are from his exhibit. A new book with text and photos by Brumfield, entitled Belozersk, has just been published. It is the fifth volume in a series devoted to the architectural heritage of historic towns in the country's Vologda territory.
