Recycled beads become a Tulane work of art

After moving into residence halls, Tulane University students were ready to celebrate, streaming outdoors for a fun evening at First Fest on Saturday (Aug. 22). They enjoyed a concert, food trucks and giant inflatables, but also helped create a bead art mural of the Tulane University shield logo in its green and white colors.

“Stephan Wanger, artist/founder of Galeria Alegria & Bead Town, designed an amazing mural that students helped complete at the event,” said Brad Romig, associate director for new student programs.

Romig is working with staff of the Lavin-Bernick Center to display the completed artwork, which measures 4 feet by 6 feet.

Saturday"s welcome event was a big success, he reported. “We had an amazing turnout and are excited to continue this event in future years as a signature program for new students and a welcome back program for returning students.”
