Remembering Katrina 10 years later
As students arrived at Tulane University for the fall 2005 semester, then-President Scott Cowen was preparing to send them away again. Hurricane Katrina loomed in the Gulf of Mexico, threatening to make landfall at a time when college students are normally getting ready to concentrate on schoolwork and connect with friends. A couple days later, Katrina"s floodwaters inundated part of the campus and set into motion a series of events that helped Tulane rebuild and contribute to the renaissance of New Orleans.
