Calm optimism prevails during library recovery process.

Wearing a hazmat suit, Lance Query, dean of libraries and information resources, surveys the progress of the remediation process in the basement of the Howard-Tilton Memorial Library on the Tulane University uptown campus after Hurricane Katrina in November 2005. After the storm, water filled the library basement damaging collections in the Maxwell Music Library, government documents, and newspapers and microforms. Undaunted, Query stated, “Through either the recovery process or purchasing or gifts, we"re going to rebuild our collection and make it as strong as it was before.” Because of the efforts of library staff and disaster recovery workers, the library was up and running by the start of the 2006 spring semester. Two additional floors to the building are slated to be completed by November.
