Staff members’ video makes national television show

Tune in to “America’s Funniest Home Videos” this Sunday (Feb. 21) to see a video by Tulane University staff members Paula Aubert, administrative assistant, development administration, and Sonia McCormick, business systems analyst, alumni development information services.

UPDATE Feb. 22, 2016 — Aubert and McCormick won the top prize ($10,000) for their video during Sunday’s airing. Now they advance to the grand prize show, with a chance to win $100,000. Their video is posted on the AFV Facebook page.

Aubert’s video production skills and McCormick’s love of creepy crawly things led to their video entitled “Butterfly Freedom Fail.”

The video involves a butterfly that McCormick raised from a caterpillar in her office at 1515 Poydras St. in downtown New Orleans.

“It’s a side hobby that a lot of my co-workers like to watch happen,” McCormick says.

All she can add, before the TV show airs, is that the video is “horrific and funny all at the same time.”

After McCormick submitted the video to the TV show, “They called me on my way home from work,” says McCormick. “I couldn’t believe it.”

The duo flew to Los Angeles for a taping of the show on Jan. 8 to compete for one of the prizes offered: $10,000 for first place, $3,000 for second place or $2,000 for third place.

“If we win first place, we’ll be invited back to participate in the grand prize show for $100,000. Can you imagine!” McCormick says.

“America’s Funniest Home Videos” airs on ABC at 6 Central Time.
