Summer upgrades prepare Tulane’s uptown campus for the academic year
While the uptown campus is quieter during the summer months, Tulane University uses the time between academic years to complete maintenance and infrastructure projects that improve campus facilities and prepare for the return of the full population of students in the fall.
One of the largest efforts underway this summer is the repair of the Diboll Parking Garage. Work includes concrete restoration and post-tension repairs following extensive surface preparation, and the project remains on track for completion by the end of June.
Facilities Services is also overseeing a major roofing project at Stanley Thomas Hall. The roughly 11-week project includes scaffolding installation, roof repairs and site restoration to the historic structure, which was built in 1911.
Crews also continue work on Unified Green, a project that will connect Newcomb Quad and the Berger Family Lawn to create a central green space in the heart of campus. The project will also improve stormwater management through new underground infrastructure.
“Summer gives our teams the opportunity to complete work that would create greater disruption during the academic year,” said Dani Galloway, associate vice president of facilities management. “These projects help keep campus functioning at its best to support the student, faculty and staff experience throughout the year.”
Other projects include heating and cooling system improvements, utility work in residence halls and repairs to underground steam and fiber-optic networks that serve campus buildings.
Additional summer projects include:
- Asphalt repairs on Ben Weiner Drive
- Campuswide tree trimming and maintenance
- Residence hall painting and flooring improvements
- McAlister Auditorium interior dome painting
- Fire alarm and sprinkler inspections across campus
- Utility, plumbing and mechanical repairs in residence halls and academic buildings
While project schedules remain subject to change based on weather, contractor availability and operational needs, Facilities Services will continue working throughout the summer to ensure the university is ready for the start of the fall semester.
