Suspect in LBC robbery arrested

The suspect in Saturday"s (Oct. 10) robbery at the Lavin-Bernick Center for University Life (LBC) on the Tulane University uptown campus was arrested on Thursday (Oct. 15), following the posting of a $10,000 Crimestoppers" reward by Tulane.

“This is a credit to the hard work, dedication and cooperation of the Tulane Police Department, the New Orleans Police Department and Crimestoppers. We owe all a debt of gratitude,” Tulane President Mike Fitts said.

Tre Spadoni, 20, was arrested in the 2900 block of Orleans Ave. after he was identified as the suspect who approached a table of three students around 4 p.m. on Oct. 10 inside the LBC.

On Wednesday (Oct. 14), the TUPD and NOPD released a photograph of the suspect taken from an LBC surveillance video.

Investigators were able to identify Spadoni through citizen participation and Crimestoppers" tips.

During questioning, Spadoni confessed to robbing the students, according to NOPD. Detectives also recovered the weapon used in the crime as well as some of the clothing Spadoni was wearing at the time of the crime.

Fitts pledged to continue to be aggressive in protecting the members of the Tulane community. In fact, when news of the arrest came he was in a meeting discussing ways to increase university safety and crime prevention.

Tulane and the Undergraduate Student Government"s Student Safety Committee will host a Town Hall meeting on campus safety with Police Superintendent Jon Barnwell at 7 p.m., Tuesday (Oct. 20), in Jones Hall, Room 102. The Town Hall is open to the entire Tulane community.

In addition, Tulane has numerous resources available through Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and TUPD for anyone who has been the victim of a crime or is feeling anxious or concerned about crime.
