Teach-in About Haiti

In response to the devastation following the earthquake and aftershocks in Haiti, students in the Tulane Latin American Studies program are holding a teach-in about Haiti on Tuesday (Jan. 26).

The event at 7 p.m. in Jones Hall, room 102, will be an opportunity for discussion about the issues now facing Haiti and how New Orleanians can get involved in the recovery efforts. The event is free and open to all.

Panelists will include Marie Paul, an adjunct instructor in the Department of French and Italian who specializes in French Creole languages, particularly Haitian, and who is of Haitian origin; Charles Figley, professor of social work and director of the Tulane Traumatology Institute, who is a leading expert in disaster-related mental health; Roseanne Adderley, associate professor of history with Caribbean expertise; and Nick Kocmich, a public health student who has worked with non-governmental organizations in Haiti.

"Please join us for this important and informative event because donating money is only part of the solution," says Katharine Glenn, a sophomore who is majoring in Latin American Studies.

Tulane University has established a website that serves as a clearinghouse for information about fundraising and other humanitarian efforts.
