Teaming up against breast cancer
The Tulane University Police Department will take on the Tulane Department of Housing and Residence Life in charity softball game Saturday (Nov. 23) from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Turchin Stadium.
A softball game on Saturday (Nov. 23) will benefit TUPD dispatcher Trinette Clay, who is battling breast cancer.
The game was organized by the Tulane police department to benefit dispatcher Trinette Clay, who is battling breast cancer. Clay, a 15-year employee of the department, has undergone a mastectomy and is currently undergoing a second round of chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
Lieutenant Jeff Blue of TUPD says the charity game is the department's effort to give back to someone who has given so much to others.
“Even after a mastectomy and her first round of chemotherapy and radiation, Trinette organized a team to raise funds for and to participate in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure,” says Blue. “She even finished the race herself.”
While Clay's focus has been raising money to support breast cancer research, Blue says the department would like to provide assistance with Clay's mounting medical bills and ongoing living expenses as she battles her illness.
There is no admission fee required for the game, but a suggested donation of $10 would be appreciated, Blue says.
With a $10 donation, spectators will be entered in a raffle to receive a variety of prizes including restaurant gift cards, cameras and Tulane merchandise. The raffle drawing will be held after the game.
In addition, there will be a silent auction for items such as Reily Student Recreation Center membership, season tickets to Tulane athletic events, a signed Saints football and more.
