An all-female Carnival krewe, presumably either Venus or Iris, parades down Howard Avenue in the late 1950s. While Iris has the distinction of being the first all-woman krewe, it was not the first all-woman parade. The Krewe of Venus rolled for the first time in 1941, and remained the only women’s parade until Iris joined them in 1959.
