Tinsel Town Trivia

Quoting from the works of famous authors has always provided a you-must-be-smart reaction at cocktail parties, but today I've got some Tulane movie trivia that you can use to grab everyone's attention at your next social event.

Sure, a line from a Charles Dickens novel may impress some, but did you know that Tulane's campus has been the backdrop to several big screen movies, game shows, television series and commercials? If not, here's the script to your ice-breaker:

You: A Tulane student has been selected as a contestant in “College Week” of “Wheel of Fortune” that will be taping at the New Orleans Convention Center this April.

Friend: Really? Can we attend?

You: Sure. The show is looking for students to be part of the live studio audience on Saturday, April 16, with two audience showings that day (3:30 p.m. or 7:30 p.m.). Groups of 20 or more can submit a request for tickets!

Friend: That's awesome. Wasn't Miley Cyrus at Tulane recently?

You: Yes, she was shooting her new movie So Undercover. But that isn't the first movie to be shot at Tulane. Run Away Jury filmed scenes in Audubon No. 2 in 2002 and Mr. 3000, starring the late Bernie Mack, shot scenes in the weight room of the Wilson Center.

Friend: Seriously? What else?

You: The Brooke Ellison Story directed by Christopher Reeves in 2004, the John McCain biopic, Faith of My Fathers in 2005, and in 2008 there was The Patriot and Living Proof starring Harry Connick Jr.

Friend: Wow!

You: Ever heard of the book Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter?

Friend: Of course!

You: Well, it's in the pre-production stage, but scenes for that film will be shot right here on campus, too!

Friend: I'm impressed. You're officially a movie genius! But how do you know all this?

You: I read the Insider!

If this script is too short for you, tell them about “Tremé,” “Mad Money” and the “Architecture School” reality series all with scenes shot on campus. There's also an unofficial list of Tulane mentions in literature and media on Wikipedia.
