The Joint Commission recognized Tulane Health System as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures for 2015 (using 2014 data). This achievement demonstrates the system"s commitment to evidence-based interventions that are delivered in the right way and at the right time, because it"s the right thing to do for patients, says Dr. William Lunn, CEO of the Tulane Health System.

“The Joint Commission"s Top Performers recognition uses objective data to determine facilities that consistently achieve high performance levels on key quality measures,” Lunn says. “Only 31 percent of all TJC-accredited hospitals received this honor. We appreciate our entire medical team, whose dedication to evidence-based clinical practices helps ensure the best possible outcomes for the patients we"re privileged to treat.”

The Top Performers program recognizes hospitals that attain excellence on accountability measures related to evidence-based care for certain conditions, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care, children"s asthma, inpatient psychiatric services, stroke, venous thromboembolism, immunization and perinatal care.

Tulane Health System facilities in the New Orleans area include Tulane Medical Center, Tulane Lakeside Hospital for Women and Children, Tulane Pediatrics, Tulane Cancer Center Comprehensive Clinic, Tulane Transplant Institute, Tulane Multispecialty Center Metairie, Tulane Multispecialty Center Uptown, Tulane Multispecialty Center Downtown and the Tulane Institute of Sports Medicine.

Tulane Medical Center recently unveiled a new 26-bed Surgical Care Unit, and added more than 50 medical and surgical beds throughout the facility. Tulane Lakeside Hospital for Women and Children received national recognition as a Baby-friendly Birth Facility.

Both facilities show substantial improvements in patient satisfaction since the implementation of leader rounding at the beginning of this year. The latest Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems surveys show Tulane Medical Center and Tulane Lakeside leading the division and dramatically increasing patient satisfaction in areas including communication with doctors and nurses.
