Wave inks recruits on National Signing Day
With new Green Wave head football coach Curtis Johnson leading the way, Tulane University had inked 15 recruits as of 11:15 a.m. today (Feb. 1) on 2012 National Signing Day. Johnson's inaugural signing class includes a four-star recruit and seven three-star recruits, according to various scouting services.
Ten of the new players are from Louisiana, including highly touted Darion Monroe, a cornerback who has also played quarterback at East St. John High School in Laplace, La. Monroe is rated a four-star recruit by Rivals.com and ESPN.com and also was the District 8-5A and Metro Offensive Player of the Year.
The signing of Monroe represents the first four-star student-athlete to join the Green Wave program since websites began issuing star ratings in 2000.
Fans can follow the latest action on the athletics website and help Johnson and the team celebrate its new incoming players at a football signing day party today from 6 until 7:30 p.m. at the Rathskellar in the basement of the Lavin-Bernick Center.
In addition, a press conference is scheduled to announce all the recruits at 2 p.m. today.
