Weights and measures
Sarah Agnes Estelle “Sadie” Irvine measures ingredients for a compound in the Newcomb Pottery studio. Called the “cornerstone” of the Newcomb Pottery program by many scholars, Irvine was the most well-known of all the Newcomb designers. She received a diploma in Art from Newcomb in 1906 and was a graduate student from 1906-1908. She was a craftsman in Newcomb Pottery from 1908-1929, and then a paid employee of the university from 1929 until her retirement in 1952.
