World-renowned surgeon supports sports medicine
Internationally recognized orthopaedic surgeon Dr. James R. Andrews is giving back to the institution that gave him his start in sports medicine. The James R. Andrews, M.D., Endowed Lectureship in Sports Medicine will give Tulane University students, residents and fellows access to the world"s most distinguished experts in sports medicine care.

A surgeon to star athletes, including Drew Brees, the Manning brothers, Jack Nicklaus and Charles Barkley, Andrews is one of if not the most prominent and successful surgeons in the field. A former resident in the Tulane Department of Orthopaedics, he credits Tulane for his first steps toward success in sports medicine.
“If it hadn"t been for Dr. Jack Wickstrom and Tulane orthopaedics,” says Andrews, “I probably wouldn"t have been able to get the training I did in sports medicine.”
Andrews" gift will make an impact in the field in which he has spent his life working. He will be helping to educate future physicians at Tulane with this endowed lectureship.
“The Andrews Lectureship, sponsored by former Tulane orthopaedic resident Jimmy Andrews, represents a continuation of Jimmy"s lifelong pursuit to improve the care of the injured athlete,” says Dr. Felix “Buddy” Savoie, chief of sports medicine at Tulane.
“This wonderful sponsored lectureship will allow Tulane Sports Medicine to attract worldwide thought leaders to educate physicians, therapists and trainers in order to provide optimal care for injured athletes.”
