Morning light shines on a Southern magnolia bloom in Audubon Park near the uptown campus. Native to the southeastern United States, the leaves of the magnolia tree are hardy with a shiny surface making them resistant to damage from the elements. In the U.S., magnolia wood is used to produce a variety of products such as furniture, venetian blinds, and as a veneer.
