“If there is less Permian oil then there will be less Permian gas,” says Eric Smith, associate director of the Tulane Energy Institute. “If crude is in a funk, then associated gas production declines. In contrast, there are dry-gas fields where gas production is on purpose. That favors long-term supply commitments. It’s a very different business model from associated gas.”
