“His blood system is starting to produce a new immune system. We are being able to detect that he's making this new hemoglobin. And so, he's really still in the recovery phase, but he's showing great promise so far,” said Tulane hematologist-oncologist Dr. Ben Watkins, director of the Stem Cell Transplant and Cellular Therapies Program at LCMC Health.
