Los Angeles Kings general manager Dean Lombardi returns to Tulane Law School

Dean Lombardi, president and general manager of the Los Angeles Kings, winners of this year"s Stanley Cup, will return to Tulane Law School for a two-day visit to his alma mater on Thursday, Sept. 20, and Friday, Sept. 21.

Lombardi, who earned his juris doctor from Tulane Law School in 1985, will bring his coaching staff along to visit classes and speak with students. Lombardi will speak about the value of legal training for coaching and sports management and career opportunities in the field on Friday, Sept. 21, from 2-3 p.m. in Room 110 of Weinmann Hall on the Tulane campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Sports analysts have credited Lombardi for transforming the Kings and leading the team to its first Stanley Cup win. “The real hero, even if he"ll never take credit,” wrote ESPN analyst Pierre LeBrun, “is indeed Lombardi, who took over the Kings in 2006 and completely rebuilt the team.” Prior to joining the Kings, Lombardi was general manager of the San Jose Sharks and a pro scout for the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Tulane Law School was the first law school to offer a certificate of specialization in sports law. Tulane"s Sports Law program is the leading program in the country.
