Medical students to learn residency assignments on National Match Day

WHO:        Faculty, friends and family members will cheer on 197 graduating fourth-year students of Tulane University School of Medicine’s Class of 2017 as they learn where they’ll spend the next chapter of their medical careers.

WHAT:       Tulane University School of Medicine’s annual Match Day ceremony  

WHEN:      Friday, March 17. Doors open at 10 a.m.; Program starts at 11 a.m.  

WHERE:     Empire Ballroom, Hyatt Regency New Orleans, 601 Loyola Ave.

MORE:  Every year on Match Day the National Medical Resident Matching Program pairs graduating medical students throughout the United States with academic medical institutions. As residents, they will spend the next three to six years in specialized training on their journey to becoming fully licensed physicians. This year’s national Match is expected to be the largest in history, exceeding the more than 42,000 applicants who registered for the 2016 Match and the more than 4,800 residency programs at institutions across the country that offered more than 30,000 positions last year.
