NYU Langone Medical Center dean and CEO joins Board of Tulane
Dr. Robert I. Grossman, dean and CEO of NYU Langone Medical Center and a Tulane University alumnus, has joined the Board of Tulane, the university’s main governing body.
Grossman is an award-winning researcher and author of 336 publications and five books, including a best-selling textbook in neuroradiology. He leads both NYU School of Medicine and NYU Langone Health System, the latter comprising Tisch Hospital, Hospital for Joint Diseases, Hassenfeld Children's Hospital, NYU Lutheran and Rusk Rehabilitation and over 115 ambulatory locations throughout New York City’s five boroughs, Long Island, New Jersey and Westchester, Putnam and Duchess counties.
Grossman received his bachelor of science degree Phi Beta Kappa from Tulane where he was a scholarship student, participated in the Junior Year Abroad Honors Program and was elected to Alpha Epsilon Delta, a health pre-professional honor society.
“Bob is one of the nation’s top medical researchers and administrators. He is a pioneer in the field of neuroscience, biomedical imaging and multiple sclerosis research. He is also a visionary and strategic leader who has significantly advanced NYU School of Medicine’s and NYU Langone’s academic and clinical prominence throughout the world. We are so fortunate that he is bringing his expertise and leadership to the Board of Tulane,” Tulane President Mike Fitts said.
Grossman is a member of the Tulane President’s Council and a past member of the Board of Advisers for the Tulane School of Science and Engineering. He also co-chaired his 40th and 45th reunion committees at Tulane.
“I fell in love with Tulane the first time I walked onto campus,” Grossman said. “I am so pleased to play a role in the continued success of this vital institution.”
Grossman, who earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania, is the recipient of numerous honors, including the Javits Neuroscience Investigator Award from the National Institutes of Health. He was also the first recipient of the Outstanding Contributions in Research Award, given annually by the Foundation of the American Society of Neuroradiology. In addition he has received the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine Distinguished Graduate Award and the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine Gold Medal. He received an honorary doctorate from the University of Bordeaux and was named a Living Landmark by the New York Landmarks Conservancy.
Grossman is married to Dr. Elisabeth J. Cohen, an ophthalmologist and professor of ophthalmology at NYU School of Medicine. They have two adult children, David and Benjamin.
