Tulane Immigrant Rights Clinic report: Detained immigrants languishing in Louisiana prisons


The Tulane Immigrant Rights Clinic released a report that found immigrant detainees in Louisiana are routinely denied their right to a speedy review of cases challenging indefinite detention. The report, conducted by Tulane Law Professors Mary Yanik and Laila Hlass and their students, found only five cases out of nearly 500 in which the court ordered U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to release detained immigrants on habeas petitions. Instead, once detainees challenged the practice, many were quietly released by ICE.

Ghosts of the Gulf

A Studio in the Woods awarded grant from the National Endowment for the Arts


Through a National Endowment for the Arts grant, a Studio in the Woods — a program of Tulane’s ByWater Institute — will support “Search for the Ghosts of the Gulf,” a project with artist, biologist and environmental activist Brandon Ballengée and Plaquemines Parish that will explore missing and endangered Gulf of Mexico fish species.
