Charles and Frederick
Portraits of Charles T. Howard (1832-1885), left, and Frederick W. Tilton (1821-1890), right, grace the walls of the first floor lobby of the Howard-Tilton Memorial Library. Throughout the year, the library will be celebrating the 80th anniversary of the merger of the Howard Memorial Library of New Orleans (now the Ogden Museum) established in 1889, and Tilton Memorial Library (now Tilton Hall), Tulane's first freestanding library on campus erected in his memory in 1901. Lovingly referred to as “Howie-T” by students, this year also marks the 50th anniversary of the current Howard-Tilton Memorial Library building. Be on the lookout for exhibits commemorating the anniversaries as the year progresses.
