A cherubic figure sits atop a turtle overlooking the pool of the Gumbel Memorial Fountain at the entrance of Audubon Park, directly across St. Charles Avenue from Gibson Hall. The fountain was designed and largely created by Austrian-born artist Isidore Konti in 1918, however, the turtles are the work of Konti’s countryman and friend, Frederick Roth, who specialized in animal figures.
