First-year student Maddie Grills, a musical performance major from Florida, prepares for a class in Dixon Hall. The Newcomb Department of Music offers a non-conservatory Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Performance, as well as the freedom for any student at Tulane, regardless of major, to participate in classes and audition for ensembles. All of the practice and performance spaces in the department are equipped with Steinway pianos, and the department also owns numerous instruments available for use by students in private lessons or ensembles.
