Music Rising at Tulane wraps up spring concert series
L’union Creole is a free concert series that celebrates Louisiana music and the linguistic and stylistic cultural heritage that make the region unique. The series will present its final concert on Sunday, May 27, at 6:30 p.m. at the Neighborhood Story Project, 2202 Lapeyrouse St.
Les Cenelles, a collective of string music, saxophone, piano, and technology will perform.
The concert series is a collaboration between Music Rising at Tulane Presents, the Neighborhood Story Project and Preservation Hall. Music Rising at Tulane Presents is the newest branch of the Music Rising program. It uses music as a springboard for interdisciplinary conversations about art, justice and place.
“Rather than just document the history of it, we wanted to participate in it.”
Bruce “Sunpie” BarnesBruce “Sunpie” Barnes of Sunpie and the Louisiana Sunspots and Rachel Breunlin of the Neighborhood Story Project created the program that emphasizes neighborhood traditions, such as Sunday evening concerts, and is rooted in teaching and music.
“We envisioned this concert series at the Neighborhood Story Project’s workshop as a way to honor and keep this tradition of Sunday night music going in the Seventh Ward,” Breunlin states. “Rather than just document the history of it, we wanted to participate in it.”
