Tastes like Mamma's
Documenting our state’s food culture is a special mission of the Louisiana Research Collection. LaRC preserves restaurant menus and brochures, food reports and studies, family papers with recipes, and Louisiana cookbooks. This year, nearly a hundred self-published cookbooks from local churches, schools, social organizations, and families were added to the already extensive collection. These are essential for recording an area's unique food interests, and are often the only way to preserve older foodways, such as a grandmother's recipe for crawfish étouffée. C’est bon!
