The Canal streetcar makes a continuous route through the downtown campus.

A streetcar rolls down Canal Street past Elk Place, near Tulane’s downtown campus. Streetcar service began in New Orleans in 1861, with horse-drawn streetcars on several routes throughout the city. The Canal Line was the first to become electrified, beginning in July 1894.
