J. Quincy Brown, associate professor of biomedical engineering at Tulane, and colleagues are developing a microscope that can examine biopsied tissues in the operating room, reducing the amount of time it takes to diagnose prostate and other cancers. The goal is to provide quick results so patients can start treatment plans sooner.

Tulane’s Murphy Institute will welcome national radio journalist Kai Ryssdal, host and senior editor of American Public Media’s “Marketplace” as the keynote speaker for the Mary C. Parker Yates Lecture. Marketplace is a radio program dedicated to business and the economy that reaches over 11 million listeners each week on over 800 public radio stations. Ryssdal is also the co-host of the podcast “Make Me Smart.” The lecture will take place on Thursday, Oct. 19, at 4 p.m. in the Myra Clare Rogers Memorial Chapel on the uptown campus. Dixon Hall is the site of one of the Crescent City Chamber Music Festival’s free concerts today at 7 p.m. The seldom-heard music of composer Ernest Chausson is featured in this program, as well as that of other composers.
